What are the OOS?The OOS are a collection of works that form an entire project that I have decided to create for myself, which centers around the album
Origin Of Symmetry by
Muse, hence the title of the project. This is a completely personal project, and has no backing whatsoever from the band. It is an excuse to flesh out my creative portfolio and improve my abilities as an animator, designer, illustrator and writer.
But what actually are the Origins Of Symmetry? They are the inspiration I have taken personally from listening to Muse's second album, and my own imaginings of the visual versions of the tracks. They are ideas, stories, characters and plots. They are intended to be evocative of the music, or at least from my viewpoint. OOS is one of my favourite albums of all time, and I want to express what I see in my head when I hear the music; that's all. Perhaps my work will give new sensations to songs you already know and love, or maybe they will inspire you to explore the album for yourself. Whatever you get out of my project is not important to me - once again I must stress that this is a purely selfish work.
What are the art forms you will use?Every Origin will contain in itself many different parts, including back stories and biographies of characters, illustrations, animations, etc. There is no limit, no deadline to what I will create for each Origin - only the boundaries of my creativity and the OOS universe can limit me. There are 11 Origins, each corresponding to a track on the album. Think of every Origin as a product in itself - therefore Hyper Music could contain some 5 illustrations, 3 animations, 9 short stories, etc.
So what happens now?I plan on primarily developing the universe that the Origins will inhabit, and follow this up with a series of short stories, character biographies and histories in order to set the scene and to help you understand what I am trying to achieve. Concept-wise I believe I am borrowing heavily from The Matrix universe, in that the OOS are set sometime in the near future, on an Earth that is very different to the one we inhabit today.
So check back here often to see how things are getting along. I am very excited about this.
If you have any questions (I know I have been very vague here) please use the shoutbox or comment this journal entry. I will not reply to notes that are questions about the OOS.
